This month we say goodbye to M Comedy at the M Club with a belting line-up perfectly fitting for the occasion. We knew when we first came to the M Club that the venue itself was part of the High Street re-development, but the plan was to bring a year worth of some of the finest comedy talent to the club and we’d like to thank the venue and it’s staff for all the hard work and effort over the past year, it’s been a pleasure to work with them and they allowed us to achieve that.
The final show is held up by Chris Ramsey. Nominated for the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Award 2009 and a finalist in the 2008 Chortle Student Comedian of the Year Award, Chris is a regular act and compere at some of the biggest comedy clubs in the UK. As well as performing in comedy clubs Chris has supported Lee Mack, Russell Kane, Jenny Eclair, and Stephen K Amos on national tours and also for Al Murray ‘The Pub Landlord’.
Canadian comic Pete Johansson was probably surprised to be nominated for the “Best Newcomer award” at the Edinburgh Festival. Not because he lacks confidence in his comedic skills -He’s a man assured about how good a comedian he is – but moreover, because he’s got 19 years of comedy experience behind him. His show “Naked Pictures Of My Life” – got universal acclaim from the Edinburgh critics and it gave him the exposure (no pun intended) that led to being one of the main acts on Channel 4’s “Best Of The Fest” show.
Markus Birdman will sell tickets on the back of the people that saw him at Crewe Limelight when we ran comedy there. His brilliantly absurd brand of comedy led to him being one of the most requested comics that we put on. He started his career in 2001, a finalist in the BBC New Act comedy awards, losing out to Alan Carr in the final. Since then, Markus has gone on to become one of the UK’s most consistent comedians appearing at all the major comedy venues and festivals.
Rob Rouse will be recognised mostly from presenting the first series of “Friday Night Project” on Channel 4, and also from appearances on “8 out of 10 cats” and “Comedy Shuffle”, but he’s been a regular draw on the UK comedy circuit for over a decade, starting with winning the prestigious “so you think you’re funny” award in 1998. Many TV shows, Radio shows, theatre shows and Edinburgh shows later, he’s widely regarded as one of the top acts on the UK comedy scene.
So there we go – a top night to finish comedy at the M Club with a bang. Remember too – we’d also like you to vote for us in the 2010 Chortle Awards for Best Comedy Show in the North – click here and scroll down near the foot of the page and give us your vote.
